Project SEE
Since 1970, the Concord School District has made environmental education part of its curriculum. The Science and Environmental Education program is a direct complement to the district's elementary science curriculum, teaching not only science skills but life skills, social responsibility, and even the ABCs. Elementary grade-level programming takes place in classrooms, schoolyards and throughout the community. The White Farm outdoor laboratory and learning center on Clinton Street are special facilities operated by the environmental education program.

The program's goal is to provide Concord students with concrete "hands-on" science and environmental education learning experiences and helping to develop scientific awareness and problem-solving skills. SEE lessons contribute to the wisdom and understanding students need to be whole-earth stewards, intelligent consumers and involved citizens when they graduate from the Concord School District.

Current Events
What's New at Project SEE!

We can't believe the year is almost over! Take a look at what the students in Concord will be doing to wrap up this fun and science-filled year with Project SEE!

This month, first graders will be wrapping up their study of cycles, and learning about recycling and composting.

In May, second graders will wrap up their study of habitats by thinking about the habitat around their school. They will each choose an animal that might live around their schoolyard and build a small habitat model for that animal. They will be thinking about what animals need to survive in a habitat (food, water, shelter, space).

In third grade with Project SEE, students are exploring that mysterious force we call "energy." In May, they will wrap up the energy unit by playing an energy board game that reviews what they have learned so far this year about types of energy, energy transformations, and reducing our energy use.
Third graders will also come out to White Farm to learn about and explore the plants and creatures living in our wetland!

In May, fourth graders will complete their last Project SEE experiment of the year.  They will be making different baking soda and vinegar solutions to investigate how the amount of vinegar affects the amount of gas released (measured by the circumference of a balloon it blows up).
Fourth graders will also come out to White Farm to learn about Herbs and help get the garden ready for the summer!

Can we tell time by the sun? Fifth graders will find out this month by building an analemmatic sundial, and testing it outside.

 In-Class Lessons
Once a month Project SEE goes out to the first through fifth grade classrooms to deliver 45-minute science lessons. These lessons are known as the Project SEE Collaborative lessons. This folder contains the most current lesson plans by grade level. Please note: the lesson plans are subject to change as our lessons continue to grow.
